What is Polyurethane PUR Hot Melt Adhesive?

Reactive polyurethane, referred as PUR, is utilized in manufacturing of hot melt adhesive. Due to its superior strength, water and heat resistance, PUR is increasingly popular in variety of applications. specifically edge-banding, profile wrapping and lamination, in manufacturing of furnitures.

Characteristics of EVA Hot Melt Adhesives:

Unlike traditional and economical EVA, and Polyolefin (PO) materials, Polyurethane reacts with moisture in the air, gradually forms irreversible bond, in a "cross-linking" chemical process. The bonding continues to strengthen, typically within 48 hours. Once the PUR is completely cured, the bonding is permanent, and would not re-melt in the heat. This irreversible reaction ensures its resistance to water and heat, allowing it to endure extreme conditions such as high humidity, direct sunlight, and outdoor use.

Moreover, PUR hot melt adhesives provide stronger adhesion to EVA and PO adhesives and adhere effectively to challenging materials like plastics, metals, and glass. Typically, PUR uses less glue to achieve strong bonding, resulting in a good finish with a minimal visible glue line.

Limitations:

Although PUR adhesives are extremely durable and create exceptionally strong bonds, they can be expensive and place high demands on manufacturing conditions (such as temperature and humidity), not to mention they require extra gluing equipment and consistent maintenance.

Applications for PUR Hot Melt Adhesives in furnitures:

At Free Bird Adhesives, we are proud of our decades-long expertise in polyurethane hot melt adhesives, offering solutions for the furniture-making industry.

Our PUR serie is widely used in automated dispensing systems, in applications of edge-banding, profile wrapping and lamination. Our PUR is available in 2KG slot and 20 KG drum size, with shelf life of 12 months, to adjust different equipment settings and usage amount.

  1. Edge banding: PUR adhesives are becoming more popular for high-end furnitures, where "zero" bond-line and environmental factors are critical.

  1. Profile wrapping: PUR adhesives are taking the place of EVA adhesives for wrapping window and door frames, where strong bonds and resistance to heat and chemicals are important.

  1. Lamination: PUR adhesives are becoming the go-to choice for lamination due to their excellent bonding strength, smooth surface finishes and environmental resistance.
